CASE STUDY

Equip Church International

Overview

When Equip Church International (Equip) set about their rebuilding project, they brought us on board for the audio visual (AV) side of things at the start of the project. The project was to be completed in 2 phases, and AV infrastructure needed to accommodate for the rollout of both phases. We assisted by giving specific AV guidance to the architects and services consultants preparing for the project.

The Challenge

The brief from the church was to create an auditorium that would set the stage for a powerful worship experience week after week.

Our Solution

With a scope set by some highly qualified members of the church, we set about building an auditorium to be proud of. There is certainly nothing like it in the Hoppers Crossing area (as of 2013), and as such was set to become a venue for many local events.

The second stage of the project (completed early 2014) delivered a large multi-purpose room system for smaller meetings, and a range of self-contained systems for public spaces and meeting rooms.

Project Features

Audio

A d&b Line Array PA system with out-fill, stage lips, and subs was chosen to provide high quality sound reinforcement. The excellent acoustic treatment of the room (consisted of curved diffusors and absorptive panels) only increased the intelligibility and consistency of audio across the room. Even in the top tier, the coverage is outstanding. Complete connectivity is enabled over the whole auditorium, with links to various ancillary rooms. Sennheiser wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring systems ensure quality audio right from the start of the chain, and an Allen & Heath digital console functions as a stand-alone front of house and monitoring console (has optional Apple iOS interface for the musicians and singers to mix their own monitors).

Projection

Equip wanted to make a visual statement from the stage. A super wide 10.3m x 2.9m projection on a stretched white cyclorama stands out prominently as a stage backdrop. With quality images from their design team and two professional Panasonic Cameras for stage shots, every worship service is supported by clear communication.

Lighting

A lighting rig consisting of multiple moving yoke spots and washes are supported by LED cyc bars, LED cans, and Profiles & Fresnel fixtures to produce a powerful effect. All dimming, power control, rigging, and DMX control provides the infrastructure for any size of event.
The 800 seat auditorium often needs to operate in a more intimate setting for smaller events. A ‘reduce mode’ curtain was installed to hide the top tiers of seats (a simple system for the ushers to use).
