CASE STUDY

St Paul’s Lutheran Church

Overview

St Paul’s Lutheran Church engaged Mozaix to design an AV system that would deliver complement their style of ‘call and response’ congregational worship. Interestingly, the original St James space was acoustically too lifeless. Engaging the services of an acoustic engineer, the space was radically transformed and renovated into an acoustically lively but controlled space that rewards congregational involvement and happily accomodates high SPL sound reinforcement.

The Challenge

With carpeted floors and the construction of the vaulted ceiling, the unrenovated space wasn’t suitable for St Paul’s style of ‘call and response’ congregational worship. Acoustically, it was a very dry space. St Paul’s were keen for a space that would suit their congregational needs, other activities such as music productions that would complement both classical and contemporary, and an AV system that didn’t dominate the sacred space.

Our Solution

Acoustic engineer, Andrew Nicol, was engaged. Headlining the acoustic treatment is an array of signature reflective diffusers for the front wall and behind the band stage; hard stone tile flooring; Atkar acoustic panels on the rear wall; and acoustic absorption on the balcony fascia. The result is an acoustically lively but controlled space that rewards congregational involvement and happily accommodates high SPL sound reinforcement.
